Another Me Too– by Louise
He had worked for my Daddy for years, bailing hay. At that time, he was manager of Alexanders Creamery, in Breckenridge. His wife asked me if I would like to work there. She said, "You know that we must be sure that only nice girls work there." I bet that she knew or suspected something.
I was glad to get the job, making ice cream, just 3 or 4 worked there. One day I found a half full can of ice cream, way back in the freezer. It had to be thrown away. I asked him if I could take it to Daddy's bailer crew, when I got off work that day. He agreed and that 5-man crew, they sure enjoyed it.
One day I was standing in front of the big ice cream freezer. My boss, he come up behind me and grabbed me in a big bear hug. I whirled around and wiggled loose. "If you ever touch me again, I'll quit and walk out of here. Don't you know that I'm Ben Knight’s daughter?" That ended it. I have regretted that I never told my Daddy just how much I admired him. But I never could talk to Daddy about anything like that. I gradually got to working--up front, in the retail ice cream store.
