Continuity notes
These notes are not part of Grandma Louise’s text. They point out places where the stories disagree with each other, as best today’s AI tools can tell. They are not verified research, and the stories themselves are left exactly as she wrote them.
Conflicting genealogy facts
- “Thelmer Moore 1915-” says D. Frank Moore was born in 1850; “Moore Facts” says David Frank Moore was born in 1848.
- Frank and Harriet’s marriage (Feb. 13, 1876) is placed in Lebanon, AR in one and in Greenwood, Sebastion County, Arkansas in the other. Harriet is “19” in one and “14” in the other.
- Marion Jasper Moore and Sarah Bell(e) Stephens married “Oct. 25, 1902, at Rev Hoose’s home, on the Canadian River near Porum” in one, and “October 25, 1903, in Briartown” in the other. Their ages are given as 22 and 14 (with Thelmer’s aside that he always thought she was 16) in one, and 21 and 14 in the other. Sarah’s 1888 birth year would make her 14 in 1902.
- Thelmer’s birth date: the family long thought August 26, 1916; Doctor Fulton’s record made it August 6, 1915. The stories explain this themselves; the genealogy uses Aug. 6, 1915.
The Cassino passage appears twice
- Italy and Arbucle Surprise both contain the passage about the Germans fortifying the cathedral on the hill at “Casino” (Monte Cassino) and the US 36th Division. They are two versions of the same account: one says “The US 36th Division … As they started”, the other “Our US 36th Division … As we started”. Both are kept as written.
The missing chapter was found
- Grandma’s folder had a shortcut named “drafted married Africa” pointing to “2 Drafted.doc”, which was not in the set we started from. On October 21, 2026 the chapters turned up in another copy of her files: Drafted (headed “THERE WAS TALK OF WAR”) and North Africa. They now sit in their place in The war, before Italy.
About the 2007 dates
- Every file is dated April 15, 2007. That is when the files were copied, not when each story was written. The stories were written around 2006–2007.
Privacy redactions
- On “Thelmer Moore 1915-” and “Drafted”, living family members’ birth dates are reduced to the year, and Grandma’s phone number is removed. Each redaction is shown in [square brackets].
